Dave Jewitt is an astronomer at the University of Hawaii's Institute for Astronomy. He is interested in the primitive bodies of the solar system, especially comets and Kuiper belt objects (which he discovered), as this relates to properties of the protoplanetary disk. He is also involved in research on dust disks around young stars, ice physics, small outer planet satellites, and the main belt comets Main Belt Comets. Jewitt is a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
