Dave Stevenson is the Geoge Van Osdol Professor of Planetary Science at Caltech, His research interests lie in the area of the origin and formation of our solar system. In partticular, this includes the investigation of the formation of the Moon by giant impact, modeling the massive silicate vapor atmosphere of post-impact Earth, investigation of giant planet zonal flows, giant planet structure and magnetic fields, and geology and outgassing from icy satellites. In addition, he works on understanding the earliest history of the earth and the nature of the cor and the core-mantle interaction.
