"Where Do Meteorites Come From?" Professor Richard P. Binzel Massachusetts Institute of Technology Meteorites are "free" samples from extraterrestrial bodies. However, just like in thermodynamics, there is no free lunch because chaotic dynamics make it difficult or impossible to trace meteorite origins. Groundbased and spacebased remote sensing are the techniques now used to make connections with laboratory measurements of meteorites. This talk will address the latest successes from groundbased telescopes and the Hubble Space Telescope in forging asteroid meteorite connections and preview the prospects for new advances in the field that will be achieved by the NEAR mission to Eros.
