Abstract:

There is growing concern at the falling number of students who opt 
to study physics, mathematics and science generally. The Faulkes 
Telescope Project exists to help promote the importance and relevance 
of real science in our everyday lives, with the hope that this will 
encourage students to study science and physics in particular.  
We outline the efforts made by the Faulkes Telescope Project to 
achieve this and explain some of the successes and failures to 
achieve the goals of the project.  We also present work done by 
students who have spent time working with researchers and educators 
working for the project.
