Title: Cloning the Hubble Deep Field: a model-independent measurement of galaxy evolution Speaker: Tom Broadhurst (UC Berkeley) Abstract: Presented are model-independent realizations of the local Universe out to arbitrary redshift. Comparisons with the faint HDF counts, sizes and the "drop-out" rates demonstrates that distant galaxies are intrinsically smaller and more numerous than locally, consistent with the general picture of heirarchical growth on small scales. We examine the forest depressed z>4 galaxy population in some detail and describe the properties of a highly magnified example at z=4.04.
