Bobby Bus MIT Title "Compositional Structure in the Asteroid Belt" Abstract I will describe a spectroscopic study of main-belt asteroids designed to test the genetic reality of dynamical families. The results from this work not only provide substantial evidence for the collisional origins of these families, but also for an extensive collisional and dynamical evolution of the asteroid belt as a whole. Understanding the role of mutual collisions among the asteroids is key to deciphering the origins of the meteorites and the near-Earth asteroids.
