Speaker: Judy Cohen, Caltech Title: The Globular Cluster System of M87 One can reach the young universe both by looking for objects at high redshift and by looking at the oldest objects in the local universe. Here we try the less fashionable but perhaps more productive second approach. I analyze a large sample of globular clusters around M87, the giant elliptical in the Virgo cluster of galaxies. First I describe the dynamics of the M87 globular clusters, and what can be inferred from them, then I analyze their ages and abundances.
