Slicing the Sun Sydney D'Silva Michigan State University The sun oscillates. These oscillations observed at the solar surface can be used to study its interior. One of the techniques that slices the sun to investigate its interior is `Helioseimic Tomography'. It holds a potential to study the subsurface magnetic field structure of sunspots, subsurface convective flows and the nature of the solar dynamo that drives the myriad of phenomena at and above the solar surface. Tomography has a long history in medicine, geology, radio astronomy and cosmology. Its application to the sun is still in its infancy. The technique and its development will be discussed
