The 2000 Decadal Review: Implications for Astronomy in Hawaii Dave Jewitt IfA The National Academy of Sciences Decadal Reviews of astronomy aim both to summarize recent milestones in the subject and to map a path for major developments in the next 10 years. Past Reviews have been quite influential with the funding agencies, particularly within the NSF. The 2000 Review proposes a number of projects that are appropriately seen as fantastic opportunities for the furtherance of astronomy in Hawaii. These include a 30-meter optical-infrared telescope (GSMT), a large aperture, all-sky telescope designed to explore the time domain (LSST), a high angular resolution ground-based solar telescope (ATST), and a National Virtual Observatory (NVO). In this talk, I will try to cut through the acronymns and to present an overview of the latest Decadal Review in order to stimulate a discussion of how IfA might best respond.
