Peter Papadopoulos Toronto Astronomy Physical conditions of the molecular gas in Seyfert Galaxies Abstract: Early work on Seyfert Galaxies has suggested that Type 2 seem to have more molecular gas and star formation activity than Type 1 Seyferts. If this is correct it implies a causal connection between phenomena occuring on vastly different scales, i.e from a <10 pc torus to the distribution of gas on >1 kpc scales. Is this indeed true and what is the state of the gas in a prominent member of the Seyfert list, the archetypal Seyfert 2/starburst galaxy NGC 1068?
