Abstract:

The talk will be about abundances in planetary nebulae and H
II regions. The topics included will be: temperature
structure in gaseous nebulae and their effect on abundance
determinations, the use of recombination lines instead of
forbidden lines to derive abundances, comparison of the
Solar abundances with those derived from H II regions,
galactic abundance gradients derived from H II regions, the
calibration of Pagel's method to derive the O/H ratio in
distant galaxies, and the determination of the primordial
helium abundance.
