Photometric redshifts: a glimpse of the future Alex Szalay, The Johns Hopkins University Photometric redshifts are becoming increasingly popular. The talk describes, how the technique goes considerably beyond just providing a redshift estimator: it is possible to get an estimate of the galaxy spectral type as well. Comparisons between different photometric redshift estimation techniques will be presented. New approaches to photometric redshifts are also discussed. New surveys with 100 million galaxies provide new and interesting ways to use photometric redshifts.
