Title: A Census of Poor Groups: Hot Gas, Cold Gas, and Galaxies Ann Zabludoff University of Arizona Abstract: Poor groups are the repositories of most of the baryons in the nearby universe. However, until recently, little was known about these common environments outside of our own Local Group. I will review the results of new surveys of the gas and galaxies in poor groups with an emphasis on the relationship between the evolution of group galaxies and the intragroup medium. I will also discuss on-going work to address some of the outstanding questions, including why groups are so common given that the galaxy-galaxy merger timescales are shorter than in other environments, what fraction of group baryons are in hot vs. cold gas, and what the galaxy populations of groups tell us about the evolution of galaxies in rich clusters.
