"Observational night-time solar physics: using tools and models learned from
our Sun to understand other Suns"

High precision polarimetry and detailed models of solar atmospheres
are allowing us to see into the circumstellar envelopes of distant,
even more complicated, stellar systems. The IfA on Maui should soon be
buzzing with this activity. I'll describe recent theory, models, and
tools that are central to this story.
