The Cepheid Distance Scale in the Era of Precision Cosmology

An accurate and precise measurement of the Hubble constant (H_0) plays a critical role in constraining the equation of state of dark energy and other cosmological parameters, in combination with cosmic microwave background fluctuations, baryon acoustic oscillations and high-redshift supernovae. In this talk I will review recent advances in the Extragalactic Distance Scale which have enabled a determination of H_0 with a total uncertainty of 3%. I will also discuss prospects for a 1% measurement of H_0 using HST, GAIA and JWST.
