We are living in the golden age of star and planet formation -- replete with amazing research tools, theoretical developments, and observational discoveries. I will illustrate how tools like high contrast imaging, disk demographics, and infrared spectroscopy can be used to probe the earliest phases of planet formation, the timescale and efficiency of planet formation, how planets assemble, and the mechanism that drives disk accretion.
