Dear potential "Galaxies" students:

A PRELIMINARY version of the syllabus for Astro 626 can be found
at www.ifa.hawaii.edu/~barnes/ast626_05/ast626.html, where you will
also find a link to a more detailed reading list for each class (which
is also, of course, very preliminary).

The UH bookstore seems to have slightly mixed up the textbook
order for this class -- both "Galactic Dynamics" and "Galactic
Astronomy" SHOULD have been listed as required texts. There are,
however, several used copies of "Galactic Dynamics" available, so pick
one up if you don't have it already -- it's a good reference to have
on hand. The third book, "Galaxies in the Universe", is optional; it
treats the material at a less advanced level, but you may find it
helpful in developing overview of the subject.

                                                Cheers,

                                                        Josh Barnes
