Studies in Solar and Stellar Physics


J.R. Kuhn (and J. Li, H. Lin, D. Mickey): Fall 2003

This class will provide an introduction to key topics in the physics of the Sun. We will explore some of the tools and methods available for understanding a resolved star like the Sun. Pedagogic lectures and readings will focus on topics in:

Helioseismology
MHD Physics
Convection and Turbulence
Solar Corona
Sunspots
Flares
High photon flux instrumentation
Polarimetry

Lectures will be approximately 80 minutes long on Friday at 10:30am beginning on Sept. 5, 2003.
