Hilo is located on the east coast of Hawaii Island and is the seat of County government. The area is always verdant and lush due to an annual rainfall of over 70 inches per year and is the wettest city in the United States. The University of Hawaii at Hilo has a large campus here with a Science and Technology Park filled with several Mauna Kea observatories telescope headquarters.
