IfA Hilo Outreach - Mauna Kea Tours

Hawaii Community College Professor, Bernard Laurich, must be one of the most interactive teachers one can have at the HCC campus. Not only does he take some of his physics students to hike up Mauna Loa for pressure measurement experiments, but he also arranges summit tours with the IfA for his beginning astronomy classes. On March 7, 2007, a group of ten astronomy students, Professor Laurich, and IfA Student Outreach Assistant, Callie McNew, enjoyed the spectacular weather on Mauna Kea for the early part of the afternoon. Touring the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) and the Canada France Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) were among the highlites of the wonderful day. Many thanks to Lars (from Mars) at the IRTF and Oliver Lay at CFHT.
