IfA Hilo Outreach - Koa's Page

Introduction

Kahalelaukoa Ell is known to many as Koa Ell. As her name indicates in the Hawaiian language, she is a warrior ever depending upon and preserving the integrity of the vibrant culture of her ancestors. She is always in tune to the voices of her kupuna (elders or ancestors) as they communicate with her through the voices of the land, the rocks, the wind and the heavens. She walks in the footsteps of her kupuna as she journeys up and down the mountain known to her as Mauna O Wakea. The mountain lives through the deities Poliahu, Lilinoe, Wai`au, and Kahoupokane. She invites you to travel with her and her companions on this Journey of Discovery.

Koa works full time for the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy in Hilo as their Community Outreach Assistant, and openly shares her passion for this beautiful and majestic mountain Mauna Kea.

If you, or your group are interested in hearing Koa and joining her on this virtual tour, please contact her at 932-2399, or email at kell at ifa dot hawaii dot edu
