Despite the predictions from hierarchical models of galaxy formation that accretion and mergers are common, there are few observational constraints on the accretion rate. In particular, the rate of accretion of satellite galaxies, which should happen much more often than major mergers, are very poorly constrained. I will discuss constraints on the minor merger rate based on the symmetry of disk galaxies.
