PHOTOMETRICAL, MORPHOLOGICAL AND KINEMATICAL PROPERTIES OF MULTIPLE MERGER REMNANTS

We analyze the properties of the merger remnants of compact galaxy groups and compare them with those of elliptical galaxies. For this we use the results of over 150 fully self-consistent N-body simulations, which follow the evolution and subsequent merging of groups of five, initially spherical, galaxies and cover a wide range of initial conditions. Both halos around individual galaxies and common halos encompassing the whole group have been considered. The simulations also cover a range of relative halo masses and of different kinematics of the group, including groups in virial equilibrium, groups with small values of the virial ratio, expanding and rotating groups.
