On the Universality of the M-sigma relation of Ellipticals

We studied the evolution of structure of galaxies through many
encounters between two galaxies. From the result, we found that the
individual galaxies evolve so as to satisfy the relation M proportional to
sigma4 through interations with each other in galaxy clusters.
Firstly, we present the result of numerical experiment of an encounter
of two galaxies. Scondly, we show a semi-analytic study on the
evolution of structure of ellipticals in galaxy clusters, where
galaxies suffer from frequent encounters with each other. As a
result, we derived the relation M proportional to
sigma4 as a steady state
of ellipticals in a cluster environment.
