Submillimeter Array viewed from the South
At the time that this photograph was taken, no antennas had been
installed in the submillimeter array. This photograph shows the
area in which the array will be installed. The antennas in the
submillimeter array will be arranged in four different spacings,
ranging from a compact mode (separation 24 meters) to a the largest
configuration (spacing 470 meters).
The antenna pads and wiring were already installed when this
photograph was taken. The antenna pads are well camouflaged and very
difficult to see. The access roads upon which the antennas will be
transported can be seen more easily.
