"I'll Weave a Lei of Stars for You"

Get ready for May 1st, Lei Day!  Join Leilehua Yuen as she hakus stories, chants, songs and hula into a lei of aloha for our island.  Learn about different kinds of lei: haku, nipu'u, hili and others, and their importance in Hawaiian culture.  Listen as Leilehua shares her knowledge of the various plants used in the making of lei, and the traditions and mythologies associated with each.  Come celebrate this marvelous tradition and learn different techniques for making your own lei.

Speaker Biography

Leilehua Yuen was raised on the Big Island of Hawai'i.  As an artist, author and educator, she has dedicated her life to the study and perpetuation of Hawaiian culture.  Having performed and taught hula around the world, Leilehua is a passionate speaker and marvelous storyteller.  Over the past decade, Leilehua has traveled to Mauna Kea several times each year to share here mana'o of this incredible place.
