James "Kimo" Keali`i Pihana - Kupuna

James "Kimo" Keali`i Pihana

Hawaiian kupuna Kimo Pihana joins us with his son, Moana Pihana, and daughter, Michelle Uilani Pihana, to explore cosmology as understood through the Kumulipo, the Hawaiian creation story.  He also addresses astronomy as a continuing cultural practice.  Now retired, he was one of the original Mauna Kea Rangers as well as being a lifetime cultural practitioner.  From this unique perspective, he discusses proper protocol and reverence when coming to this place and addresses the impact on the mountain as we move into the future.  He explores the idea that "Science is inclusive in all cultures."
