James "Kimo" Keali`i Pihana - Kupuna

James "Kimo" Keali'i Pihana

Kupuna Kimo Pihana joins us to explore cosmology as understood through the Kumulipo, the Hawaiian creation story, and addresses astronomy as a continuing cultural practice.  Looking at the Hawaiian genealogy, he illustrates the rich history of Hawaiians as astronomers.  Now retired, Uncle Kimo was one of the original Mauna Kea Rangers.  A life long practitioner of Hawaiian tradition, he discusses proper protocol, humbleness and reverence when coming to this place.  It is our honor to have him back on the mountain.
