Kahalelaukoa Ka`ahanui Rice

Join Kahalelaukoa Ka`ahanui Rice as she shares her knowledge, passion and experience of this majestic and sacred mountain - Mauna Kea.  Guided by the belief that knowing our sense of place, and respecting and nurturing what has been given to us is of the utmost importance, Koa will share pictures and beliefs of cultural sites on this mountain, and stories of astronomy and science throughout the history of Hawai`i, leading up to what is happening on the mountain today.  Come experience the beauty and essence of this powerful mountain through her eyes.

On the third Saturday of the month, the VIS hosts Malalo o ka Po Lani, a special presentation covering cultural components that surround Mauna O Wakea. The presentation begins at 6:00 PM and is followed by the regular evening stargazing program.

Each month features a different speaker from the community who will speak about Mauna O Wakea from a cultural perspective.
