ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE AT LEAST 16 YEARS OF AGE IF TOUR GOES ABOVE THE ELEVATION OF THE VISITOR INFORMATION STATION – 4-WD REQUIRED IF TOUR GOES ABOVE LEVEL OF VISITOR INFORMATION STATION
Please wash down your vehicle(s), especially mud, before coming up to the VIS/HP area at 9200 feet, to protect the Mountain from invasive species of plants and animals.

This permit applies to the University of Hawaii’s Mauna Kea Science Reserve (MKSR). Adjoining the MKSR is the Mauna Kea Ice Age Natural Area Reserve (MKICNAR) which includes Lake Waiau and the Keanako`I Mauna Kea adze quarry, and is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Land and Natural Resources. You are advised that all rules, regulations and policies pertaining to MKICNAR apply. Please be further advised that certain circumstances require a permit authorized by the Natural Area Reserves System Commission. Violations of MKICNAR rules, regulations or policies observed by the Mauna Kea Rangers shall be reported to the Natural Area Reserve program. For further information regarding the MKICNAR, contact the Hawaii Island office of the Division of Forestry and Wildlife at (808) 974-4221.
