Local Trails around the VIS

For those who don't have enough ambition or time to hike to the Summit, a couple of trails near the VIS can lead you to rare plants or a stunning view of the Saddle region, Mauna Loa and, at the right time, beautiful sunsets.

Here are some of the silverswords in the enclosure behind the VIS, in full bloom!

A 15-minute walk to the top of Pu'u Kalepeamoa can result in dramatic sunset views.  Here's Hualalai in the setting sun.
