Aloha and welcome.  Come in and take a look around.  The University of Hawaii's Institute for Astronomy is one of just a few instrument building organizations in the world.

What We Do

We design and build scientific instrumentation for use with the telescopes on Mauna Kea, Haleakala and Cerro Pachon in Chile.

History

Since the late 1960's we have been involved with scientific instrumentation for astronomy.  We have instruments at the PS1 Telescope, UH 88" telescope, NASA Infrared Telescope Facility, Gemini Observatory (North and South), Subaru Telescope, AEOS Telescope Facility and the Mees Solar Observatory.  We are fortunate to be able to contribute to science by building and supporting astronomical instrumentation.

People

Our people make the difference.  Their experience in precision machine work and knowledge of instrument design permit them to build "one of a kind" instruments composed of complex mechanisms and assemblies.
