An excellent starting point is with the INSPEC Recorded Training provided by Thomson Scientific. It is important to note that these sessions are for Version 3.0 of the Web of Knowledge (WoK) interface. There are three different sessions provided, but only two are specific to INSPEC. If you do not wish to view a whole session it is divided into multiple parts so you can skip any parts you want.
Introduction to INSPEC (4:54 minutes) - this session provides a general look at INSPEC, including aspects unique to this database.
Search Tips for INSPEC (10:22 minutes) - this session goes into detail to show you how to search INSPEC and covers the different search fields, special search operators, and the search aids provided.
In the event these tutorials are not specific enough you can use the INSPEC Help files or the INSPEC 3.0 Seminar Guide, which goes into greater detail than the Recorded Training Sessions.
At this point in time, INSPEC can be accessed in the 3.0 and 4.0 versions of WoK. As stated above the INSPEC sessions are specific to 3.0. However, those sessions are still helpful when using Version 4.0, and Thomson Scientific has sessions for the new WoK. The WoK Recorded Training has three sessions that are useful when using INSPEC.
Introduction to the New ISI Web of Knowledge (4:00 minutes) - this session is a general overview of the new interface.
Saving Search Histories and Alerts (5:45 minutes) - this session goes in to detail on how to save Searches and Histories and how to retrieve them.
Managing Search Results (04:14 minutes) - this session explains how to export, print, email and save records.
INSPEC is a database created by The Institution of Engineering and Technology and provided through the Thomson Scientific platform Web of Knowledge.
