First Image from ULBCam

NGC 891 image

Image of the edge-on galaxy NGC 891, which is at a distance of about 10 million light years. This false-color image was made by Richard Wainscoat and Peter Capak from two separate infrared images at wavelengths of 1.2 and 1.6 microns. The total exposure time was approximately 30 minutes. Regions with strong dust absorption appear red.

This is the first published image from theUltra-Low Background infrared camera (ULBCam) built by Don Hall at the Institute for Astronomy.
