J. Pittichova - Biography

Jana Pittichova is the new NSF/NATO postdoctoral fellow. She arrived from the Slovak Republic in October 1999, and is working with Dr. Karen Meech on the modelling of comet tails and comet dust. She received her MS Degree at the Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovak Republic, and her Ph.D. at the Institute of Astronomy of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Her scientific interests include images processing and modelling of cometary dust tails, and this is extending into other areas of star formation, dust properties and bioastronomy.

In addition to her scholarly work, she has helped organized conferences, and has attended many scientific meetings. She was also a visiting researcher at the European Soutern Observatory in Garching, Germany. She also enjoys swimming, skiing, travelling and is an international water life saver. Jana speaks english, russian, czech, slovak and some german.
