Thanks to funding from the National Science Foundation, NSTA has created a program to train a cadre of teachers to become WebWatchers. These teachers will research and select Web sites that can be integrated into science curricula, and they will share their research with other teachers through the NSTA Web site. The summer workshops are open to all full-time K-6 teachers who teach science as part of their curriculum and to full-time grades 7-12 science teachers. This is the final year of the program, and the cadre will continue the efforts from the previous workshops. Each workshop lasts 11 days, and participants receive a stipend and per diem. Travel and lodging are covered as well. The grades K-6 workshop will be held June 24 - July 5, 2002. The grades 7-12 workshop will be held July 15 - July 26, 2002. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2002. The application is only available on-line at http://www.scilinks.org/nsfinstitute/application/ . Applicants will need to feel comfortable using the PC platform in opening files, minimizing/resizing/closing windows, and transferring files to folders and shared network drives. The workshop is not intended to provide training for Mac users to feel comfortable in using the PC environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, such as Internet Explorer, Word, and PowerPoint, are also highly beneficial. If you would like more information about WebWatchers, log on to the NSTA Web site at http://www.nsta.org and type webwatchers in the search box. If you have any questions, please contact Mark Davis at mdavis@nsta.org or (703) 312-9222.
