The grade for the course will be based on the following:

One Midterm Exam   (20% of total grade)

There will be one midterm exam, given in class about half way through the course(see dates). It will count 20% toward your total grade.

A Research Paper   (25% of total grade)

25% of your final grade will be assessed from a research paper. Topics will be announced in class. See here for the due date. You are encouraged to read as widely as possible in preparation for writing the paper, both from the reading list and from the suggestions for further reading that are given throughout the website.

It is particularly important that you reference all sources of information, including websites, when you write your paper. Check back here for more detailed guidelines.

Homework Related to Class Discussions (25% of total grade)

Reading and discussion of primary source material will be emphasised. On the order of one class session every two weeks will be devoted to discussion and analysis of reading from supplemental background and primary source material. Part of your grade will be computed from homeworks related to material covered in these discussions.

Final Exam   (30% of total grade)

The final exam will be given in class (Wat 112) on May 10 from 12:00 to 2:00pm. It will cover all the material of the course and will count 30% toward your total grade. You must take the Final to get a grade in the course.
