Goodness look at this slick new website. So spiffy. Is it cheating that I got it off the web? I think not. Learn more...

New and Improved!...and under construction
I'm liking this fancy new layout, and will be bringing the rest of my pages over to this format as I find time.
I am a graduate student at the University of Hawaii's Institute for Astronomy. Most of the material on this site relates to my tentative forays into astronomy, scientific computing, and cultural criticism. I am interested in all three of these fields, but am an expert in none. Graduate school is an attempt to remedy at least part of this.
The academic page includes information on projects I have been involved in as a graduate student and an undergrad, and includes pages on astrophysical masers, automated facial recognition, and interacting binary stars. The writing page links to articles on popular culture (mainly film) that I have written for student publications at Calvin College and the University of Hawaii at Manoa . The code page provides links to computer programs (currently all in IDL) I have written that may have some general applicability.
In the spirit of embracing curiosity, I've tried to include material accessible at a variety of levels. If something could be improved or clarified, I welcome the feedback.
