Redshift versus (B - I) color and B magnitude. Squares refer to SSA22 and diamonds to SSA13. Crosses show unidentified objects at a nominal redshift. Objects with (B - I) > 1.6 are at intermediate redshift. Blue objects with (B - I) < 1.6 have a bimodal distribution that onsets at about B = 23, namely, those at low redshift (~0.25) and those at high redshift (> 0.8). Most unidentified objects have these blue colors and may be at redshifts > 1.6 where OII moves out of the observable spectral range.
