About Me

I'm currently a postdoc at the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawai'i. My research involves studying how young stars interact with their parent molecular cloud, you can read more on my research page. A core part of this work involves analyzing images from a large area survey of molecular clouds. I'm also an alumnus and big fan of The University of California at Berkeley where I majored in physics and astrophysics. photo of me at Mills Lake I've also done a bit of teaching and outreach. My teaching page has links to old class web pages, IDL and IRAF tutorials, and public outreach links.

My main hobby is amateur astronomy, I've been doing that for about 15 years. I try to go observing at least once a month and preferably more. I also volunteer at the Visitor Information Station (VIS) up on Mauna Kea from time to time. You can read more about amateur astronomy and my attempts at astrophotography on my astronomy page.

I've also been interested in photography for several years. I've only been shooting digital since 2004, so I don't have all my photos available for this web page, but the gallery includes a few that I thought fit to post.

The image at left is a photo of me from a few years ago. It was taken up near Mills Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park.
