Metallicity Calibrations for Gaseous Nebulae
Location
Metals07 will be located at the Institute for Astronomy (IfA) in Manoa, Hawaii. The Institute for Astronomy was founded at the University of Hawaii (UH) in 1967 to manage Haleakala and Mauna Kea Observatories, and to carry out its own program of fundamental research into the stars, planets and galaxies that make up our Universe. One of eleven research institutes within the University of Hawaii it has a total staff of over 200, including about 45 faculty.
The Institute for Astronomy is located in beautiful Manoa Valley.
Manoa Valley is only a few minutes by car from downtown Honolulu and Waikiki Beach. Manoa Valley is home to the Lyon Arboretum and Manoa Falls. Lyon Arboretum is run by the University of Hawaii and has an extensive tropical plant collection emphasizing native Hawaiian species. At the end of Manoa Rd, parking is available for Manoa Falls, a 150 foot waterfall. The falls are a 0.8 mile hike from the parking area.
Manoa marketplace is adjacent to the IfA and offers a number of restaurants and cafes, including sushi, Italian, Sandwiches, Pizza, Chinese, Thai, Korean, and American food. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, Manoa Marketplace has a farmer's market for fresh Hawaiian and imported fruit and vegetables.
The island of Oahu contains many tourist attractions, hiking trails, and other outdoor activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, and diving. The weather in January is mild with average daily temperatures reaching 82-84 degrees F and lows of 66-69 degrees F.
