Karen Jean Meech -- Comet Hale-Bopp Observing Campaign

Comet C/1995 O1 Hale-Bopp is an extraordinary comet, not only for the potential for public viewing but also because of its activity at very large distances. Because of this, it is very interesting scientifically from the point of view of looking for primordial differences between comets of different orbital classes, and we are devoting considerable research time to this comet. Specifically, we have had observing runs to attempt to measure the rotation period of the nucleus, and have several spectacular sequences of images of the inner coma jets.

For an in-depth discussion of the comet, its discovery and current observations, please see my contribution to the PSRDiscoveries Hale Bopp Page.

Below is a table of some of the best Hale-Bopp images - both from our program on Mauna Kea and from other sites on the web.
