American Airlines

We have negotiated discounted airfares with American Airlines for participants of the Bioastronomy '99 meeting. To make reservations, call the toll free number: 800-433-1790 and specify the group code (see mailing #3 for group code). This number will be answered between 5am to 12 midnight central time (UT - 6 hours) 7 days a week, including holidays. American airlines flies only to Honolulu, so you will have to use an interisland carrier to get to Kona (Hawaiian or Aloha airlines). We have negotiated group discount rates on Hawaiian Airlines (see below).

  • All fares are based on zones - which are greatly reduced from the lowest published fares. For example, the fare from New York Kennedy airport to Honolulu at the current lowest published value is $1,322 - $1,422. The zone fare for this city (Zone E) is $764. The upper end of the rates (peak rates) apply for the time period 07 Jun 99 - 19 Aug 99. The fares below do not include any necessary taxes. The following fares will be applicable for U.S. domestic flights only.

  • These fares are refundable minus a $75 service fee.
  • Fares are valid for this group from 27 Jul 99 through 16 Aug 99.
  • Reservations must be made and ticketed 7 days prior to departure or 7 days after booking, whichever comes first.
  • Open jaws (e.g. different departure and arrival cities) are allowed in the origin or destination zone, but not both.
  • Frequent flier mileage can be accrued.
  • Fares do not require a Saturday night stay.
  • There are no discounted fares available for international travel, however, international participants may get the discounts if a separate ticket is purchased for the domestic leg of the flights.

    We have obtained group fares with Hawaiian Airlines for our interisland travel and also from some selected west coast cities. These fares should be available by calling Hawaiian Airlines reservations (800-367-5320 for mainland reservations, and 800-882-8811 for interisland reservations; on Oahu call 808-838-1555). These fares will be available by identifying yourself as part of the Bioastronomy '99 group when you make your reservations (available after 5/31). The following fares are good for travel between August 4-15, 1999. The mainland fares are round trip, with all taxes included. The interisland fares are one way with all taxes included.

    Rental Cars

    We have negotiated discounted rental car rates with Avis and are in the process of getting discounted rates with National Car Rental for the meeting. The hotel is located approx 27 miles from the Kona airport. A rental car is recommended for those who wish to do any exploring of the area. Taxi fare from the airport to the hotel is approx $45 one way.

    Avis

    To reserve cars at the convention Avis car rates quoted below, call 1-800-331-1600, and use the Avis Worldwide Discount Number (AWD) H007099. Alternately, you can get the discounted Avis rates with a single phone call when you reserve your air reservations through American airlines at the phone number above.
