Inserting the Appropriate Filter, Aperture, and Grism Names

When the camera window is opened, the following files are read:

/export/home/cosmic/aperture.names
/export/home/cosmic/filter.names
/export/home/cosmic/grism.names
If you have inserted any new filters, for example, you may wish to change the filter names for the instrument window (and hence for what is written into the image headers). Copy the old filter list into a backup (type ``cp filter.names filter.names.old'', followed by a carriage return) and then edit the file ``filter.names'' using the text editor utility. (You can invoke the text editor by clicking the right mouse onto a blank portion of the screen background, then click the right mouse again on ``Programs'', and finally click the right mouse on the ``Text Editor''. Use the Menus on the top of the text editor to load in the current file, then edit it, and save it.)

As a consideration to others, if you change any of these files, please replace the original versions at the end of your run. You can do this, for example, by typing ``cp filter.names.old filter.names''.

If you edit any of these three tables, you will need to quit the current COSMIC instrument window, and reopen a new COSMIC window to load the new names into the window menus.
