UH astronomers produce catalog to extensively map universe

by Roy Gal | Aug 15, 2022 | Cosmology, Current, Galaxy Clustering, News, Research, Surveys, UH Press Release

What does our universe look like at the largest size scales? A massive new catalog of high-fidelity distance estimates to more than 350 million galaxies reveals the soap-bubble structure of the universe in detail.
Astronomers trace galaxy flows across 700 Million light years

Astronomers trace galaxy flows across 700 Million light years

by Roy Gal | Feb 3, 2022 | Cosmology, Current, News, Research, UH Press Release

In a major new study, a team of astronomers from the IfA, University of Maryland and University of Paris-Saclay has traced the movement of 10,000 galaxies and clusters of galaxies, the dominant congregations of matter, within 350 million light-years.
New study proposes expansion of the universe directly impacts growth of black holes

New study proposes expansion of the universe directly impacts growth of black holes

by Roy Gal | Nov 3, 2021 | Cosmology, Current, News, Research, UH Press Release

A team of researchers from the Universities of Hawai`i, Chicago, and Michigan have proposed a novel solution to the problem of the unexpectedly large black hole masses found by gravitational wave observatories: that they grow with the expansion of the Universe.
