Gerry is an Astronomer at the University of Hawaii's Institute for Astronomy. Gerry got his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts of Technology in 1989 where he developed some of the first astronomical CCD cameras. His current research focuses on extragalactic work: trying to understand distances in the universe, and how distant galaxies act like giant lenses to focus light from more distant galaxies. Gerry continues with instrument development at the Institute for Astronomy.
